We're not one of the big Tier 1 companies - but being smaller can have its advantages!
- A Tier 1 company typically won't peer with smaller providers. This means they send data to the endpoint's Tier 1 provider,who then sends it on to the destination. Avensys can often send direct, bypassing this inflexibility.
- Avensys takes transit from three of the major Tier 1 companies (Cogent, Level3 and GTT), as well as having extensive peering arrangements. This means that traffic sent to us will be routed via the most efficient path to the destination, using the minimum number of network hops.
- We are members of IXManchester. Therefore there is an excellent chance that if you are in Manchester, and your traffic is heading for another Manchester provider, we can avoid the London detour and keep your traffic within Manchester.
Interested in the technical details? Below are some sample traceroutes from Avensys Manchester to a Manchester ISP (Zen). Notice that both Cogent and Level3 take the traffic from Manchester to London, hand over to NTT, who then handover to Zen in London, who take the traffic to Leeds before the final destination. Compare this with the much more direct route taken by Avensys - and also notice the reduced latency and reduced hops with Avensys. This is why smaller is sometimes better!
